KENTWILLIAMS: EKLEKTIKOS
Features paintings created from 2007-2011

In Kent Williams: Eklektikos, art critic Peter Frank explains, “To view a Kent Williams painting is to believe yourself in it – or, more precisely, to believe yourself in it and out of (if near) it at the same time, suspended between levels of reality just as the paintings’ subjects clearly are. These are not pictures to look at from a safe remove, but conditions – physical conditions, spatial conditions, mental conditions, emotional conditions, human conditions. And these conditions affect all who witness them, whether in them or before them. They have to: they speak to us of us, and must do so about us, not merely at us.”

Book Signing and Closing

Merry Karnowsky Gallery

Kent Williams
Book Signing

Saturday, June 18, 2011
1:00 - 4:00 PM

Wine and refreshments

Merry Karnowsky Gallery has made arrangements to have a number of advanced copies of Kent Williams' new book Eklektikos available on the closing day of the artist's exhibition Convergence. Kent will be available from 1 - 4 PM this Saturday, June 18th to chat and dedicate his new monograph.

The gallery is pleased to offer a free exhibition poster for each book purchase, as well as a free poster for the first 35 people in attendance.

Following his much anticipated monograph Amalgam released in 2007, Eklektikos features paintings created over the past four years including a number of the works in the current exhibition.

Los Angeles art critic Peter Frank explains in his essay from the book, "To view a Kent Williams painting is to believe yourself in it – or, more precisely, to believe yourself in it and out of (if near) it at the same time, suspended between levels of reality just as the paintings’ subjects clearly are. These are not pictures to look at from a safe remove; they are conditions – physical conditions, spatial conditions, mental conditions, emotional conditions, human conditions. And these conditions affect all who witness them, whether in them or before them. They have to: they speak to us of us, and must do so about us, not merely at us."

If you cannot attend, please call the gallery at 323.933.4408 to reserve a signed copy.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Group art show opening

Water Works at GR2 - A benefit for UNICEF and child victims of the
earthquake in Japan

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF (USF) is raising funds to help
children in Japan impacted by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
This is an unusual decision, as Japan is a donor to UNICEF, not a
recipient of its assistance. However, due to the unprecedented nature
of the epic disaster and its impact on children, resources are going
to be critical in helping provide for the very unique needs of
children. These may include health, development, and protection and
other needs that may have been compromised or disrupted in the wake of
the catastrophe. Giant Robot is proud to join the effort, and have
asked many of our talented friends to create water-themed art to raise
funds to support the efforts of UNICEF.

In addition to raising money by selling artwork, Giant Robot will be
donating the following to UNICEF:

1. Proceeds from the sale of water bottles featuring labels created by
artists and signed by celebrities.
2. Fifty percent of proceeds from Giant Robot’s small restaurant,
gr/eats, on Saturday, March 19.
3. A percentage of all sales at Giant Robot, GR2, and GRSF during the
weekend of March 18-20.
4. Raffles for donated merchandise including designer- and
artist-signed items, GR gear, horseback rides, and other items.
5. Cash donations accepted for UNICEF.
